Tanya’s interest in music developed at a young age, and she started piano lessons at the age of 5 years. At 14, she attended music college to study, and completed a four year course in two years. Tanya was accepted into university at 16, where she gained a diploma in music (opera and singing teacher).
A PHD at Birmingham University was followed by an Advanced PHD in Professional Performance Music.
From there, Tanya was submitted for a place at Cardiff International Academy of Voice. The academy was founded by Dennis O’Neil CBE and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa in partnership with Cardiff University, with the intention of taking the 10 to 15 best opera students in the world and training them to become the elite. During her course at the academy her teachers included Richard Bonynge plus, of course, Dennis and Kiri.
On graduation, Tanya was offered further places in Paris, America and Cardiff, but it was at this point she discovered she was pregnant with twins. This gave her time to reflect on what she really enjoyed and wanted to do in music. The answer was to coach.
Tanya’s coaching career took off right away, when she was invited by Dennis O’Neill to coach at the academy in Cardiff. She works with a number of individuals and groups, and received many requests to work with choirs in the final stages of competition. She has coached Choir CF1 who won Choir of Wales, and then went on to work with them the following year, when they won Choir of Great Britain.
Tanya has also had many successes coaching individuals with one of her younger students, Reuben De Maid, being signed by Warner Brothers in America. Tanya taught Reuben from scratch and is very proud of the fact that he has become the youngest artist signed to the label in the USA.
Tanya’s qualifications, and teaching and coaching experience are first class.
